Basketball is typically the only sport that turns a profit behind football. LSU's managed to be in a deficit last season.
Not only did fat moron Scott Woodward nuke the basketball program, he made an absolutely terrible business decision

“As in most athletic departments, football helps support almost everything else. The only other LSU sport to turn a profit during the 2022-23 academic year was men’s basketball. Every other sport lost at least $1 million, with women’s basketball the furthest in the red.“
“Men’s basketball finished with a $1.34 million profit during coach Matt McMahon’s first season, even though the team went 14-19 overall and won two SEC games. As ticket sales and other primary revenue sources remained steady, men’s basketball reported a slight increase in total revenue ($507,435) from the year before.”

Drop off will show this season. Everyone that purchased season tickets during the Wade era probably held them to see how the new coach would do.
Also cheaper to not have to travel for post season play, some thing this program won't be doing for a while
