A sat phone will be much more expensive than a satellite messenger. I use a ZOLEO for this and I really like it. You can pull weather to it, text folks, and scramble the jets if you need government rescue, some others that are similar l to consider would be a garmin inreach or bivy stick. Look at the activation costs and monthly plans, the initial cost won’t be a factor after you have been paying for plans for a year.
