Kinda like the Bo P hire in a way. The insiders at AU were desperate for this guy, Bo would have been Nebraska choice no matter how poor he had performed immediately prior.....IMO.

hell chizik's D at UT in 2006 was horrible when considering their talent

And for all the Iowa St can't win talk, they went to 5 bowls from 00-06. I'm not all that familiar with McCarney (or how he left the program), but it seems like Chizik actually made that program worse.

Croom was well spoken, he should have been hired.

Iowa State almost won the Big 12 North in 2005, but gave it away when they decided they didn't want to be the ones to get shite-stomped by Texas.

Yes.

AU's recruiting is about to go to shite. My balls have more personality than Gene Chizik.

if this is the best they can do then they should have given tubbs a lifetime contract.

I agree 100 percent, I can not understand why AU would hire a D guy to replace Tubbs anyway.

I only meant in regard to an admin. who may have had selected a HC based on perception when he was at the school prior, not 100% based on track record.

IMO Bo P is head and shoulders above this guy, as a D man and as a recruiter.

This is like asking if Germany would have been better off with Mussolini.

Les should have a look at him.

Time may prove us wrong, SFP, but I agree - terrible hire. I thought that Auburn was being smart, Turner Gill, Will Muschamp, just top-shelf candidates, but to panic and pull the trigger on Chizik - just smacks of desparation.

I mean he's relatively young, a defensive coach, coached at Auburn before, and head coaching experience. If those were their four criteria, I guess they got their guy. But I would be much more comfortable with Muschamp, with no HC experience than Chizik. Turner Gill would also have been a brilliant hire.

Again, time may prove otherwise, but, yes, I think Croom would have been a superior hire to Chizik.

Croom showed no coaching ability at msu and refused to make changes when they were needed.

I saw that McCarney was a candidate for a HC gig somewhere, but I wouldn't be surprised if Les talked to him about being DC.
