Do the fricking retards around here not realize the NCAA waited forever to issue a ruling on LSU’s status? This will be his first recruiting class to not have that hanging over his head. See what they do next year and then go ahead and judge.
And McMahon signed the 17th best HS class that season. He signed as many top 100 players as Texas, Auburn, Villanova, Baylor, Houston, Michigan St. That year. He signed MORE top 100 players than UConn, Creighton, Purdue, Gonzaga that season. In fact, unless LSU signs another player this year's class that first class will be ranked much higher. The excuse of the "looming sanctions" and "dark cloud" hindering recruiting over the last two years falls apart when you look at actual facts.
Total number of top 100 players signed in 2022 and 2023 (McMahon's first two recruiting classes)
UConn - 4
Auburn - 3
Gonzaga - 2
Purdue - 1
Arizona - 4
Texas - 3
Florida - 1
South Carolina - 1
Mississippi State - 1
Villanova - 2
LSU - 3
Marquette - 1
Houston - 3
When compared to SEC contemporaries and some of the best programs in the nation McMahon's signing classes compared, favorably. His classes were certainly better than Lamont Paris at South Carolina. LSU battled them last year for the title of worst team in the SEC last season. LSU pulled away at the end. In fact, South Carolina was the ONLY team LSU was picked to finish ahead of in the preseason polls. Apparently South Carolina didn't get the message as they sit at 20-3 and flying up the projected seed line in the NCAAT. LSU is celebrating "playing hard" for a 10:00 stretch in a 20 point blowout loss.
Quickly "Rebuilding" (or really just building) a winning roster has NEVER been easier than it is now. Sustaining it is a different story. Unfortunately, to date, McMahon has done neither. That's not what I, as an LSU fan, want to be the case. It just is what it is. And never before have I seen so many fans twist themselves in to pretzels trying to defend such futility.

The problem with MM is he is just an average coach. He isn’t as bad as everyone made him out to be last year but he also doesn’t have the upside a lot of people want to believe he has. The level of coaching in the SEC has improved significantly over the years. He’s a middle of the pack kind of guy whose upside is a bubble team in the NCAAT in good years and an NIT bid the other years. Woody needs to decide if he’s good with that for the MBB program or if he wants MBB to really compete at a top 20 level every year.

And now the rest of the story. The only reason LSU finished 17th...the only reason...is that McMahon signed 11 players. Let's look at average rating per signee shall we. Oh yeah, LSU's ranking drops dramatically from 17th to 30th if you factor in supposed quality. I said this before...the problem with McMahon is he gets several low 4* caliber guys (I'm talking like 60 through 100 nationally ranked), but he can't get the stud players. In 3 years, he has only signed 1 top 60 player...that was Ward. Once again, #101 is where the 3* start in HS BB.
