She wasn't. The "fashion" industry put her out there in the public eye. And it seems the vast majority of those "fashion" guys are gay. They don't like women. Based on what passes for "fashion", I think they HATE women.
As someone else said, guys weren't putting up posters of Kate Moss. They put up posters of women with curves.
