Tiger only played around 15-18 normal tour events a year, which included, at one time, 4 WGC events and the Players which were events just as you described. Then the 4 majors. He played very few events that didn’t have deep and elite fields. There were plenty of opportunities for Phil to battle him down the stretch when a bad week for Tiger was a top 10 finish. Phil just didn’t play well enough for that to happen. Nothing about the format of the Tour prevented more Tiger and Phil battles. Sorry, it’s just a dumb argument to make

There were more huge names than just Phil and Tiger, don’t get distracted. The point is that limited field events with huge names stacks the leaderboard more so than a typical 144 player tournament on the PGA tour. That’s a fact because it’s just simple statistics.

We wind up with many pga events with a leaderboard of names that the average fan has never heard of. I like also having some tournaments with stacked fields. Maybe you don’t, and that’s fine.
