The notion that people move to Texas and live on a ranch with livestock is laughable. The only ones living like that are generational families who have had land passed down multiple times.

people on here move to a texas city's suburb from river ranch or beau chene and act like it's a completely different way of life

eta: I guess it could feel that way if you had only lived in one place for your entire life before moving? I moved around as a kid and as a younger adult so maybe i'm a special snowflake.

This is true! The only major difference is slightly better infrastructure, better public parks (if you even use them), different demographics (more international influenced), private schools do not exist, slightly less crime, very few locally owned restaurants, everything is a chain.

People in the burbs are like 95% transplants from all over and you hardly have anything in common with them. They don’t like the same sports as you, they don’t like the same food as you. They don’t hunt or fish. They’re standoffish and won’t converse with neighbors. It’s weird.

American culture has turned the same everywhere. Brunch, strips malls, breweries, group workout classes. Maybe a wine bar or two.

I’d say the biggest benefit of Texas is economic opportunity. I find the government is still pretty shitty and not that much more efficient than dealing with Louisiana. Roads often suck. But your opportunity to make money here and move up the ladder is in a different stratosphere than Louisiana.
