I was around farmers for the first half of my career (10 years) and lived in a small farm community for some time. Farmers can complain a lot, but they have a lot to complain about. The weather, market, their labor, banker, yield, buyers, equipment, crop scout, slimy cousin living off the farm, etc. Do they have some govt protection? Sure but that's certainly better than an alternative where there's no food or you can only afford food. Most of the ones I know are some of the best people I've ever met.

Well if French farmers are anything
like American farmers,

They arent. The EU controls farming in Europe, and its socialized.

Farmers are at the whim of government. Its a form of socialism. The industry is centrally planned.

“The Republicans are part of globalists”

Nothing in my post needed to be about republicans. However, where needed and for clarification, FJB Fturtlemitch, F one eye McCain.

Oh you must be a landowner that has some base acres that you run 30 cows on. Still mad about not getting that direct payment for rice on land you bought in 1997?

My apologies, I see you mentioned arc or plc so you must have planted some winter wheat to graze at some point and it kept you in the program. I love to go to meetings and see the landowners outnumber the farmers and just praying the state economist will tell them the average price has fallen below the target and they will be getting a plc payment to buy a new pickup and some hay. fricking hobby ranchers.

Farmers are small business owners.

Ever met a business owner that didn't bitch about expenses, the economy and government regulation?

I guess you missed the part where I said I have over 4K acres of row crop. Hobby rancher? I roll my arse out of bed and throw on my sketcher and tend to my herd of 1k plus brangus and F-1's.( I did inherit 600+ from my late father) I leave the hobby ranching to you Rip wanna be pussies. I stated facts about farming and you come with all this bullshite. Call me what you want, but everyone hating on farmers is a crock of shite. Unlike most greedy landowners i farm my own land. Keep watching yellowstone and go frick yourself.

The food argument doesn’t hold up anymore. Close to 50% of the corn crop goes to ethanol. Big part of the bean crop goes to fuel. Huge oversupply of animal protein, lots gets exported. Table produce is a specialty business, lots already from Mexico. We’d be just fine food wise if 50% of farmers stopped (especially Midwest mono culture).

If all us stupid farmers take a year off i gurantee your arse would retract your statement.

It blows my mind how many people hate on farmer. 99% of people who shite on us dont have a garden or any means to provide food for themselves or their family. They think groceries just appear on the shelves. Just PFM( plain fricking majic) Food just cans itself and shows up multiple times a week. No need for farmers or truckers.

Here’s how good I have it. I got my health and a great family, I enjoy coming home for lunch to my little kids and taking them to the farm, and hopefully watch them grow up on it. I love waking up every morning doing what I love and love being my own boss. I think that about covers it.

You sound exactly like my husband. Are you him??

Seriously, been doing this since 1997 when he started working with his dad but rented maybe 400 acres of his own .. 2400 acres now, plant 1200ish every year and I think we own maybe 50?? Rest is family land (maybe 200?) and leased. My husband seriously never complains .. ever. Worry yes but even that he just takes in stride (I’m the bigger worrier of the two). It was great when the kids were younger — they learned a lot and spent good time with their dad on the farm.

My family owns a farm and like all people who farm for a living, all they do is rake it in and complain.

You sound bitter. Your family must have cut you out of the family land for some reason
That would explain your anger and resentment against those who keep you fed and clothed.

but the poor-mouthing is rampant.

The poor mouthing is bc farming is the only profession that I’m aware of that a tangible product is made and instead of me setting the price for what I sell it for a global market does it for me.
Often times at a lower price than it costs me to produce it.
