It’s women’s basketball. In college it sucks money away from men’s sports same as the WNBA.

Meanwhile people want Kim Mulkey to have a decision on facility upgrades. If a department at your business is losing money will you allow that VP to dictate where money goes for improvements? Hell no.

Most men's sports lose $$$ as well. At LSU, only fball and MBB made money in 2023.

I bet you give the guy at your job who puts the toys in the happy meal box a hard time, just because you got “promoted” to the drink station.

I'm not even a fan of women's basketball, but that's a bad analogy.

As you point out, it's women's basketball, it's never going to make money (by itself).

Let's say you pour money into your R&D department (which also doesn't run a profit). You won't let the VP of R&D have a say on what improvements to the facility that department works in?
And just looking at the banter comparing both men and women's basketball, you could say WBB is a form of R&D. WBB apparently puts out a pretty entertaining product, and is respected. There are discussions on how some of those things could be implemented at the Men's level.

There’s nothing hardwired about women’s basketball that should make it unwatchable and not make money. It’s profitable in other countries and people like it. We just haven’t gotten over our hang-ups in the US yet but the numbers are improving. You gotta spend money to make money.

Right now I would rather money go to WBB than our Men's team. I don't forsee them winning g a title in my lifetime.
