I don't see how he doesn't, regardless of this years final outcome.

I thought at the beginning of SEC play 5 wins was the "magic" number because I don't think Woodward wants to make a move after just two seasons. However, I think if he closes out the SEC season at 3-15, 4-14 (which would mean finishing on a 14 game losing streak, or losing 13 of 14), Woodward would have no choice than to seriously consider where the program would be going.

That said, I think LSU finds a way to win at least 6-7 SEC games. By NO MEANS would that be a successful season (a losing record overall, which is what that would be, is not a successful season). But it would at least give some thought of MAYBE McMahon can soon compete at this level. I do hope though that Woodward is quietly monitoring the marketplace (i.e. the behind the scenes agent talk). We, the public, don't always know which good coaches may not be happy in their current situation and who might be considering a move. Meaning that if a known, successful commodity unexpectedly seems to be available LSU would be in a position to pounce.

No one would have thought Kelly may consider leaving ND. They were coming off a CFP appearance and in the hunt for another. Same for Mulkey. She had Baylor rolling prior to leaving for LSU. Now I am NOT saying there would be a MBB coach of that caliber available to LSU this offseason. But fortune favors the bold and if by some set of circumstances you have a chance to grab a proven winner it would be foolish to waste any more timing hoping McMahon gets better.
