I dunno, those are both pretty damn intense. I'd say the person would have to be interested in, or at least open to, the topics at a mature level.

Pre-teen me was able to watch The Exorcist, around 10 or 11, back in the late 70's. Yes, it stuck with me. Gave me nightmares for years afterwards. I still think it's a great movie, but you have to be ready for it.

Same thing to an extent is in play with Saving Private Ryan. I was older and it didn't bug me, but you can't just take a 10 yr old used to kid shows, and toss them into the opening sequence, or the final battle as Upham cowers in fear while his buddy slowly gets stabbed with the bayonet.

I wouldn't use either as an introduction.
