NFL Pass Interference

I know David got away with one that would have essentially ended the game in regulation.
But if the worst foul in the game is a personal foul/ unsportsmanlike penalty and it goes for 15, why is pass interfence penatly 35, 45, or 50 yards.
NFL should go to college for that ruling.
Worst rule in all of sports.

I disagree, the PI can stay. However, they should adapt the college OT system. I think it would make games really exciting!

I agree, you could attempt to end a players career and only get 15 yards....but make contact on a 50 - 50 ball and the penalty is up to 98 yards.

Hester was the intended receiver on two PI calls.
77 yards in penalties between the two.

Amen to this, sudden death blows. They play to get into field goal range

I have said this for years. Way too severe a penalty on a judgement call. And as bad as the refs have been this year, it is usually poor judgement.

it's an antiquated rule. it probably made sense before the deep passing game became common place, but today it's a death blow.
the fact that a team can win a toss, get a 40 yard PI, then kick a FG to win in OT just stinks.

NFL PI rule is the worst rule in all of sports IMO...it's the only rule where a bad call can literally bail out a struggling offense, similar to the Bears tonight and Minnesota earlier in the year.

I like the rule because I think it is not fair to bail out the secondary because the WR/QB beat them IMO.

The only thing I would like to see changed about college OT is where the drives start. I hate how teams start on the 25, already in field goal range. They should start the drives at the 40 or even mid-field to make a team have to work a little before they can kick a field goal to salvage their possession with points.
This would make college OT even better.

Good point, but our kickers suck.

Why not what has been said a million times?
Use the same system with the coin toss, but no matter what, the team that loss the toss gets the ball.
Once the 2nd team gets the ball, it is sudden death from there.
Done, good system right there.

it is the worst rule in the nfl...it assumes that the wide receiver is going to make the catch. on a lot of PI calls, that is a very big assumption. they need to go to college rules for PI

i agree with that sentiment; however, it's not consistant. if a DB sees before the ball is thrown he's going to be beat and drags down the WR, it's only defensive holding and 10 yards. it's the exact same sentiment, the DB just realizes it earlier, and it's not a spot foul.
NFL PI rules a) are ridiculously stacked in the receiver's favor, b) inconsistant, c) unreviewable, and d) carry too huge of a penalty associated w/ the judgment that needs to be made.
All a good receiver has to do on a underthrown ball is find the ball in the air and initiate contact and it's just as good as a completion.
