Started watching this series on Hulu last night. It’s about the hot pepper chili head community. So far it’s entertaining. Here’s the Trailer. Check it out.

I remember watching a video of a Ghost Pepper eating contest a dozen or so years ago and some woman from India won that particular contest.

She ate an insane amount of the peppers and to celebrate her victory she took a handful of them, crushed them and wiped them across her face-----including her eyes.

Kinda thought that was a bit insane myself.

I do like some of the hotter varieties and use them to make my own hot sauces, pepper jellies and simply pickle them to eat with other food.

That said, I've never had any inclination to sit at a table and just try to eat as many as I could in a time frame. I don't see the fun in losing the function of your hands due to what the peppers are doing to your system---------not matter how temporary.

Watched the first couple of episodes last night and what struck me is how many of the people who munch peppers for funsies are addicts who now get their highs from heat.

For a local connection, Lafayette is also the setting for parts of the episodes I saw.

I have some freinds into superhots and a couple of them grow several varieties. I am the only one of our "drink and solve the worlds problems" group that doesn't partake but it is funny to sit and watch them munch pods. They eat stuff like Reapers, 7-pots, Scorpions, and Duglah (sp?) and pretend they aren't "that" hot when they look like Army recruits just coming out of the CS chamber. Sweating, crying, nose running, their face changing colors like a barber pole and their body contorting like they just took a fatal dose of a nerve agent. I am aware of the endorphin rush you get from eating hot but much "cooler" things but I swear from the outside it looks like they are taking far more physical abuse than just popping Oxy.

I am into the 5th episode and it is a very odd but interesting sub-culture. Watching it ALMOST makes me want to try a pod next time I am with my pepper friends. Hopefully, sanity will prevail over curiosity when I heard them talking about putting your toilet paper in the freezer...
