Florence is one of my favorite cities in the world, but that would be a break-neck turnaround. If I only have 36 hours or so to burn, I would just spend the extra time in Rome and do a dawn to evening day trip from Rome to Pompeii, Pompeii to Naples to check out the “secret” Pompeii exhibit at the museum, grab a pizza, and then head back to Rome.

I think anything else is going to be more trouble than it’s worth on that short of a time table.

Eta: if you can fly into Florence without much aggravation, that changes the calculus a bit, but it would still be tight.

So many people have said that. What are people’s favorite things to do, see, visit, etc…? I’m fitting Florence into this trip one way or another. If it means flying out on Sunday instead of Monday so that we have 2.5 days there then so be it
