This was done solely for the purpose of skipping the hiring process and naming a successor quickly. Vrabel was probably on the wish list, but they would have had to go through a pool of candidates and several rounds of interviews. That being said...someone is about to score big time when they hire Mike Vrabel.

You think they got something better to do?
it’s not like they have to hit the recruiting trail, the season doesn’t end for another month. They made the call to hire Mayo a year ago.
