Southerner up North with snow

I've lived up North for awhile but finally am in a home I am responsible for snow removal.

For the snow dwellers, what is the strategy for snow on huge powder days? We are nearing a foot so far. I used the snow blower this morning and my wife & I have cleared it with a shovel 5 times throughout the day. My wife just made me shovel so it doesn't build up too much for tomorrow AM (which I didn't want to do ).

Is the better strategy to wait until it's enough to use the snow blower and not bother with the shorter interval shoveling?
