Here's the truth about any movie, media, music these days:
if you are constantly looking for a slant, you will find one, regardless of if it is there, or not. Sometimes, history offends ones political beliefs.
This movie shows some members of the communist party as normal individuals, without necessarily endorsing their behavior or motives, nor does it preach against communism. The movie tries to explain Oppenheimer, but not crucify or cheer for him. If this offends you, go watch the Jackass movies. They are fun and you don't have to think to much.

Mate how do you feel about historical dramas forcing characters of colour into leading roles no matter how far-fetched it would be?

I'm currently watching Julian Fellowe's "The Gilded Age" and a young woman of colour is a primary character. It's absurd and I have to work hard to not let it ruin the otherwise very good programme through the constant racism and wypipoisms that she stoicly endures time after time after time... after time.

Fellowes partook in this same cuckoldry towards the end of Downton Abbey, having the beautiful blonde cousin (Lady Rose, I believe) lusting openly about a jazz musician of colour.

Thank God it wasn't Lady Mary.
