The UVA woman is 39 - she has years to have children. What is your point?

The point is you're stupid.

Down syndrome risk increases with the mother's age:
1 in 1250 for a 25 year old mother
1 in 1000 at age 31
1 in 400 at age 35
1 in 100 at age 40

Some people don't see that as the parental death sentence you do. I have a much younger cousin with Down Syndrome and he is the objectively happiest human being I know and it is infectious. He is the only family member that I have never been anything less than static to see. I can assure you his parents would have him again 1,000 out of 1,000 times.

Everyone wants a perfect child but they don't exist and ones that initially appear perfect often turn out to be the biggest burden on their parents.

35+ is a geriatric pregnancy with risks to the child and the mother. Rates of disabilities go up when older women have children. It’s definitely a risk I would not take.

So a 99% chance the baby won't have downs.

My mom had me when she was 40.

That was 1965. I should've had major problems.
