Ranking all 110 movies I watched in 2023

Posted on 1/8/24 at 1:33 am
Keep in mind that not all genres are created equal. The rank I give is just compared to others in the genre. So a drama I give a 7 to is probably better than a horror or comedy that I give an 8.
Bold = First time watch
110. Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania (3.6)
Terrible terrible movie that ruined Kang's character
109. Now You See Me 2 (4.0)
As ridiculous as the first one but not as fun. The card scene is cool though.
108. Mission Impossible II (4.2)
This movie is incredibly cheesy and it's extraordinarily obvious it was made in the early 2000s
107. Matrix Revolutions (4.6)
I had to watch this again because I couldn't remember much from the first time I watched it. That's because it's an extremely forgettable movie
106. Insidious: Chapter 2 (4.8)
I can't even remember what happens in this movie
105. The Death of Stalin (5.1)
I was excited for this one but most of these jokes just didnt hit,
104. Seven Samurai (5.2)
I think this one is the first really unpopular one I have. It's WAY too long and it's hard to get emotionally attached to many of the characters
103. Nope (5.3)
Incredible directing and terrible writing.
102. World War Z (5.7)
This is the type of movie that will keep your attention the whole time but never really pays it off
101. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (5.8)
Some pretty cringey stuff in here but still entertaining
100. The Terminator (5.9)
Like many James Cameron films, this starts off pretty intriguing and then kind of becomes tiring to watch
99. Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (6.0)
When doing a Harry Potter movie marathon this movie isn't bad but feels like a chore to watch since nothing really happens
98. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (6.2)
I wanted to like this movie more but honestly only 3 of the 6 vignettes are entertaining.
97. Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire (6.2)
This used to be my favorite Harry Potter movie but then I realized the only good part is the final act
96. The Cabin in the Woods (6.3)
I thought this was gonna be a typical horror film until I realized it literally makes fun of typical horror films. Clever
95. Sicario (6.4)
Another one I was expecting to enjoy more. Part of it was I was really sleepy and my attention span wasn't quite there.
94. Donnie Darko (6.5)
Another one that kept me entertained but was generally unsatisfying.
93. The Matrix Reloaded (6.5)
Meh.
92. Insidious (6.6)
This movie was generally not that great but had a couple of the best jump scares I've ever seen
91. Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince (6.6)
The final act of this movie is possibly the best in all of Harry Potter. Not that interesting otherwise.
90. The Conjuring (6.6)
This movie wasn't what I expected. It was certainly creepy but not really violent. Kept me interested.
89. Mission Impossible (6.8)
The first hour of this movie is wonderful and then it kind of falls off the rails.
88. Now You See Me (6.8)
This movie is so stupid but really fun
87. Miracle on 34th Street (6.9)
This movie wasn't what I was expecting. That courtroom scene is one of the most savage things I've ever seen
86. Spider-Man 3 (7.0)
This would be so much lower if every scene in this movie wasn't a meme.
85. The Exorcist (7.0)
At first the girl is kind of shocking and scary but after a while it's almost funny.
84. Forrest Gump (7.1)
One of the most overrated movies of all time in my opinion.
83. The Dark Knight Rises (7.1)
Bane is pretty awesome but everything else is just not great
82. Terminator 2: Judgment Day (7.1)
Same as the first one but with a better ending
81. Barbie (7.1)
Enjoyable and funny
80. Spider Man (7.2)
By far the best spider-man origin and villain
79. Tropic Thunder (7.2)
Just a funny movie from start to finish
78. Cocaine Bear (7.2)
I had zero expectations for this movie. It was a good time.
77. Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets (7.3)
Some people say this is the worst HP movie but I strongly disagree
76. Star Wars (7.3)
I really really like this movie but I can also acknowledge that by itself it does not hold up quite as well in 2023. Still a ton of fun.
75. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (7.3)
This movie would be so much better if it weren't for the creepy Indian guy
74. Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban (7.3)
One of three Harry Potter movies that doesn't have any lulls. Solid throughout.
73. Shrek the Halls (7.4)
If you've never seen this you're missing out
72. The Godfather (7.4)
I can write 3 paragraphs about this one. Are there some excellent scenes? Yes. Some great characters? also yes. But the final scene is so overrated. Like the whole point is that Michael is such a fricking badass and his wife doesn't recognize him anymore because he's such a cold arse killer.
It's been obvious he's a bit of a psycho. At the beginning of the movie they emphasize how he's not in the game but 30 minutes later he volunteers to murder someone. I just don't think the character arc is all it's made out to be. The dude was only a normal person for like 5 minutes.
71. The Godfather Part II (7.4)
Same thing. Some great scenes. Great characters. Final scene doesn't hit. Everyone's like "Oh my God can you believe he killed his own brother?" Like yeah I can lol. Also it insists upon itself.
Bold = First time watch

Suggesting that 70 movies surpass The Godfather I & II questions the credibility of your entire list.

You have Tenet and the Menu over the Godfather I and II. Please never post a movie opinion ever again.

That's a lot of movies, but it's roughly 1 every 3 days. That's not abnormal. I've had a few days in my life where I've watched 3 movies in one day if I set out to just watch movies.
It's not that, it's that he listed all of them and then ranked each and every one.
How does one track each movie watched unless you have a notepad saying "Movie #55 of 2023 on May 8, 2023"

Can’t be. With that many movies this thread would be 10 pages before someone even replies

I disagree with A LOT of your list, but props to you for going through the trouble of rating every one. I'm sure if everyone did this, every list could be criticized.

You must be a single government worker if you have enough time to watch 110 movies in a year.
