FYI, my Legato shipped out. Supposed to get here next Tuesday. Any word on yours?

Same. Shipped out and expected delivery on Tuesday. I upgraded to the DF64. After doing some research I realized I wanted a flat burr grinder. That came in last week. I’ve been using it on fresh beans in my drip machine and it’s been significantly better.

A pretty thorough review just dropped on YouTube yesterday. Consensus is: it’s a really good machine at the price, the preinfusion kind of sucks and isn’t really preinfusion, build quality is OK, seems built to last but only time will tell, needs an OPV, has potential for flow control but will need some after-market modding.

This is my take after doing research as well. Not sure why they wouldn’t have put an OPV on it. Build quality seems to be much better than some of the others in that price range. Pre infusion seems pretty worthless but that seems like a software issue. I think a couple of inexpensive mods could make this thing a workhorse.

Machine came in today. Too late to pull espresso shots during the week. Will report back in the morning.

Same. Got mine all setup, just not looking for espresso in the evenings and don’t have time to dial in shots in the morning. Hoping to mess with it this weekend.

I was all ready to pull some shots this morning but considering we have no water and under a boil water advisory, I can’t really mess with it. Maybe we’ll find out by the weekend…

What kind of glass/mugs do y'all use? For straight shots and drinks like lattes

Would y'all take a turin legato over a Breville Infuser?

Of course you won’t put tap water in the machine. There is so much scale stuff in our water that I use distilled water with Third Wave minerals added. I also have a couple of home mineralization formulas that i have used. But I’ve fought scale for years with the pool and I don’t want that in the machine.

Yeah, wasn’t planning on using tap water. I just can’t clean anything and I’d like to get the China off of it before I fire up some shots.

We use filtered water from the fridge which is really good. Today was not the day to do that. Ice maker turned off.

Glad we left town

I bought a stackable set of ceramic cups and saucers on Amazon. Nothing over the top.

I would, but I suppose I’m biased and don’t know any other way. That said, if the infuser is cheaper and allows you to splurge more on a grinder, then I’d get the infuser.

Joe at Espresso Outlet dropped some news today on the Home Espresso FB group. Announced they are bringing over the Gemilai 3200D (I assume will be branded as the upgrade Legato). It’s a dual boiler machine. He didn’t announce pricing but I’d guess $800 to $1,000.

Also announced the DF54 grinder. Identical to the DF64v2 except 54mm flat burrs. Smaller profile as well. He said pricing around $229 which is awesome.

Their products aren’t perfect but it’s sure hard to beat the value of Turin.

Does the size of the burr make that much difference?

Maybe a more consistent grind. Also, larger burr = larger machine = larger motor turning lower RPM = more consistent and better grinds. That’s why the 64mm+ flat burr grinders cost so much more.

Stepless 54mm flat burr is just a really good starting point for people looking to get into home espresso. Especially for $30 more than a Baratza Encore ESP.

Joe just confirmed pricing will be $999 for the dual boiler machine. Said he will do a special presale for $499, insane price for a dual boiler.

Any suggestions on a scale, wdt tool, cups and tamper? Made a shot this morning and my food scale was too long to fit on the drip tray. My cups are all too big as well.

Folks grossly overpay for coffee gear. This cheap chinese scale is sold by several US retailers who slap their own label on it and more than double the price.

Thanks, kind of what I figured. I pulled a few shots this morning. I think I’m dialed in. I put 18 grams in and pulled about 35 grams in 32 seconds. The shot started coming out at about 7.5 bars and peaked out at 11 bars before coming back down. Does that seem correct? It was a medium roast bean.

I got a Timemore Black Mirror Nano scale for 20% off on Amazon. All of my other stuff is Ikape on Amazon. Have the spring loaded tamper, knock box, puck screens, and WDT tool. Got some other cheap brand for a bottomless portafilter.
