Back out the screws, use toothpicks and wood glue to fill the screw holes. Let it set for a day or two. Reinstall screws. Glue the joints before you screw it back together.

Yeah I've tried that that before and it's a lot of work for not much result. OP would be better off just getting new screws that are bigger.
