A lot of the illegals are skilled labor and some are even business owners
Plenty of electricians, welders, pipe fitters, etc. These people aren't all working in the fields picking lettuce

No doubt. And those are the people we SHOULD be letting in in a controlled way. Immigration should be about “is this person an asset or liability to the US”. The no skill liabilities need to be sent home. We aren’t the worlds halfway house.
That said, massive immigration of even high skill immigrants also has a downward impact on wages. The tech industry relies on massive amounts of Indian visas to keep their costs down and allow them to run white collar sweatshops.
