Those clauses only kick in if LSU fires him.
Coach telling him - wink, wink, it might be best if you looked elsewhere is not the same thing as being fired by the University.

True. But in that situation it’s easy way/hard way
The easy way is Kelly is nice enough to wink-wink tell House find an NFL job. But House isn’t gonna give up the buyout out of the goodness of his heart. He has zero incentive to leave on his own without LSU terminating him without cause, and nobody with an ounce of brains would do so.
So instead House appears to leave on his own, but he’s actually fired so he gets his full buyout. Spares House the bad publicity, and makes it easier for Kelly to attract top candidates by treating outgoing assistants this way.
The hard way is House won’t go find an NFL gig. So Kelly feeds House to the Rant mob and unceremoniously fires him.
At that point House sits at home out of spite, claims entitlement to the full buyout, and LSU has to litigate the offset. It’s messy, takes longer and lacks certainty. Nobody wins here.
