No it's not. Remington, Winchester, Savage, Tikka, and Sako, etc will keep pumping them out.

You know what they aren't making many of? 7mm RUM and the WSMs which came out only a few years ago. Gun manufacturers will keep putting out calibers that the ammunition manufacturers make ammo for. The 26, 28, and the 30 Nosler probably won't be in production in 10 years. Look at the 338 Lapua. Not many people buying that either.

If you want a new caliber that's fine but don't be surprised if ammo and brass become scarce.

Yes, it is. I said a particular rifle, not any rifle. I can have a gunsmith cut any chamber I want so nothing will ever truly go away, but there has been a definite trend in the availability of rifles and ammo on the shelf. I can watch ammoseek and maybe something will pop up, but this is what stores look like:

Cabela’s in Gonzales currently has four 7 rem mag rifles of any brand on their shelf, and one type of ammo for them.

For comparison, they have fourty-four 6.5CMs and twenty-two types of ammo, that I can go drive and pick up now.

Local academy has twenty-five 6.5CMs and zero 7RM.

I agree with you completely that’s dumb, but it’s a fact. The CM is over 15 years old so it’s not some flash in the pan. 7 PRC is getting the same marketing push that the 6.5 CM got.

I agree with saintsfan1977. I would stick to the tried and true calibers like 243,270,308, 30-06, 7mm mag and 300swm..if they are readily available. I mainly hunt lever guns but my bolt actions are all old calibers. I personally think the 30-06 is the best caliber out there and will kill anything in north America.Just my 2 cents
