7 PRC is here to stay whether we like it or not, Hornady is going to pay good money to see to that. The question is if it replaces the 7 mag or just sits beside it on the list while they increase the twist rates on the 7 mag barrels to the same.

The 7mm rem mag is never going away. Neither is the 243, 30-06, 308, 270, 300 win mag, etc.

Hornady didn't come up with anything new. They are a marketing company that keeps pumping out new stuff to get people to buy it. It works but in no way are their niche cartridges better.

A 7mm rem mag with a 8 twist will beat a PRC because of case capacity. The 6.5 Creedmoor is not better than a 7mm-08, 260,or 6.5 Swede. It's a marketing gimmick. I 10 years from now the cartridges I listed will still be here. The same can't be said for Hornadys. The 6.8 Western and 277 Fury aren't going to make the 270 obsolete.

Stick with old calibers and you'll always find an assortment of ammo. I handload and I'm not buying a niche caliber. I learned my lesson with the 270wsm.

They don’t have to “go away” to be relegated to certain rifles, short production runs, or just not offered at all. Finding a particular rifle in stock chambered in the old standbys is getting harder by the day. Proof research has quit chambering 7 rem mag barrels in favor of 7 PRC. Has nothing to do with what’s actually better, it’s what is being marketed.
