People either have ambition or they don't, if they have it they will bust their arse without being asked, if they don't, hire better people.

You can’t have an entire workforce of people with “ambition” unless that ambition relates to staying in current role and being an executor. Typically, ambition relates to upwards mobility and higher compensation…there’s not enough spots for it. Or, you end up looking like consulting or investment banks that have a wide base at the pyramid and cycle through 20% of their population annually. That’s fine for professional services and actually helps sell future work as your old employees move into industry. However, it’s a failure for a company that needs consistency in a workforce that has history and knows how to get things done in their specific operating model.
