Fear of wolves is natural, they are a large predator but humans are also large, and verified unprovoked wolf attacks are virtually unheard of. The problems wolves cause are for livestock. Cattle and especially sheep.

ETA: and of course pets, particularly in more urban areas where the game is scarce.

This isn’t really true. Wolves are very smart, and in this country with its armed population they learned to fear and avoid man. But read up on the situation in Russia and other European countries where wolves have very much preyed on people. If we are reintroducing these predators and at the same time preventing people from hunting them we are asking for trouble.
