There's nearly always a leap that has to be made for most athletes that "move up". HS to College is big because a lot of players never faced the type of competition they'll see in the SEC.

That said, you should expect that a kid with a 5-star rating shouldn't have to make that big of a jump. In this case, McKinley probably got that rating because of his physical potential (that's my assumption, anyway).

My only point: Maybe he rates a 5*, maybe he doesn't. Either way, he's worth pursuing if he's interested (and that's the rub, isn't it?).

And add to the fact that he will be getting paid so there will be less incentive… I just don’t see him fulfilling that potential."

I agree with both posters here. Until someone pointed it out to me, I had NO IDEA that services HS prospects ratings are based on PRO potential. IMO, that is INSANE since no one on the planet Earth can project 4 years out. Don't believe me...watch all the busts from NFL 1st round in the year they are eligible...not 4 years in advance!

I just watched his highlights. What was funny were his first 2 were INTs at the LOS where he got blocked well but the ball literally fell into his hands. I like him fine but no way is he a 5* by MY standard which is out of HS would he be a significant contributor his 1st year in college...absolutely NOT! Comparing him and Reliford. Reliford is more of a 5* IMO than McKinley and I haven't decided whether Reliford is a 5* or high 4*. The services should be indicted (other than On3 that has him 59th) for rating Reliford a low 4*. What a COMPLETE JOKE!

you do realize that's not how the recruiting service rank players.? They are ranked on their future potential of where they will be drafted
