Yeah MySpace and Facebook existed, but it was more niche and not mainstream like today’s social media platforms. People created MySpace profiles to mess around and post stupid things, they did that kind of thing as a joke. it wasn’t like Instagram and Snapchat where you have people seriously trying to be the next social media celebrity and gain as much attention and fame as possible

I was in the army at that time. Myspace, in particular, was extremely popular all the way back in 05/06, and everyone was on facebook by 2009. Mainly because we were in the thick of OIF/OEF deployments and it gave people an easy way to communicate from down range. Cell phones were ubiquitous as well. Hell, it was already a couple years into smart phones.
