2020 is an entirely different circumstance than this year. It was a Covid year with limited practice time, and Orgeron insisting on shifting to a 4 man front with 3-man front talent on the team. It is honestly what ruined that year.
Add in that they got those stats against 10 SEC games and had tons of players opting out and it looks worse. LSU gave up 439.7 ypg this year vs P5 teams, and if you remove just the MSU game since they were an utter disaster, they gave up 466 ypg.
Further, as bad as that season was, they never gave up 700+ yards to anyone.
In the end, there was legit reasons for LSU to look that bad in 2020 given the COVID issues. 2023? There was nothing anywhere near that.

Good point on the 2020 COVID year being without any cupcake teams! 
Having said that, surely you remember all the defensive busts in coverage. That has nothing to do with guys missing their assignments..time after time after time. Also, my theory was that Pelini was a fine defensive coordinator in old school football. Pelini had NO CLUE how to be a DC in the spread offense world. Pure and simple! I will stick to my statement which is still 100% valid. The 2020 defense under Bo Pelini was the WORST in LSU football history. I would have to check the Lou Tepper year(s) to compare against 2023. This past season MAY have been the 2nd worst. But once again to compare spread offenses in the last 10 or so years against offenses 25 years ago is folly to begin with.
