Re-sodding a section of lawn.

I killed area with roundup. Now do I need to scrape everything off or can I run a tiller through it and rake out the debris?
Also - any root starter or other products you recommend putting down before sod goes on?
Trying to make this as easy as possible. Thx.

I tilled and raked debris and resodded with St Augustine last may. Added only water. That section of lawn looks great now. I did find that it took weeks for the tilled soil to firm up. If I did it again I's run a roller over tilled soil, quickly rake the lay the sod.
Laying sod in winter south Louisiana is fine, but maybe not a good idea where hard freezes are common.

Glyphosate binds tightly to the soil so there won't be any residual that would cause damage to the new sod. If the area is heavily compacted or you want to work in a soil amendment like peat moss then I would till.
There is a bunch of starter ferts out there but honestly water and sun is all it needs.

Did this a few months back. No issues. St Aug grass.

You gonna lay dormant sod?

This is what I recommend to make it level.

Pretty common to lay dormant sod in LA.
From what I've seen lately, the centipede and zoysia is pretty dormant, but the st. augustine is at least 50% green. I don't think st. augustine ever went full dormant last year in the Baton Rouge area.
Even so, it still does the job of eliminating mud and erosion, then wakes up in the Spring.
I wouldn't bother with fertilizer though. Might be pointless to stimulate growth only to get burned by next week's frost.

I did the same thing.
killed everything completely with roundup. Then mowed the dead grass as low as I could. Then ran weedeater down to the dirt. placed new sod down. Watered every day for 2 weeks. It came out great.
