The upper end Samsung/LG/Sony panels are all excellent, specific ones are just better for specific use cases. The problem Samsung and LG have with perceived quality is they both compete down at the lower end range too. They make sets near the TCL/Hisense price points but they don't have quite the picture quality or reliability of TCL and Hisense at that bottom end price point. Sony on the other hand chooses not to dip as low so their lowest price set don't add the negative perception that the low end Samsungs and LG have.

As an example you can get LG and Samsung 85" TVs for $900 both of which I find unwatchable. Sony bottoms out at about $1200 for an 85" which is the point I find 85" TVs are at least watchable. At the bottom price point IMO don't buy a Samsung or LG get a Hisense instead (forgetting country of origin and only considering quality). When you move up 2 or 3 price points is when choosing Samsung, LG or Sony makes (high) sense.
