Fun fact. Shohei will make more next season than the 2023 opening day payrolls of the Baltimore Orioles ($60.7M) and the Oakland A's ($56.9M)

Not true. His AAV is $70 million a year, yes. But supposedly the majority of it is deferred. Meaning over $350 million will be paid to him after the 10 years. This was his idea so the Dodger l’s wouldn’t be financially hamstrung because of his annual salary. He will be making $35 million next year at most, leaving them room to make more moves.

Sports in general need to ban this type of contract. You want to sign him for 10 years/700m, then you're going to pay him 700m over 10 years.

At least the competitive balance threshold uses AAV.

So only 35 M towards the cap for 10 years?

What about the 35 M toward the cap for the 10 years after that?

Esp when 15 of those 20 years will likely not produce 35 M worth of production

The Dodgers sold out their fans. They can make money, sure

frick the fans. Who cares if they win? They make money and don’t win now. LOL

No way a true Dodger fan likes this deal improving the team’s chances long term to win championships
