I thought we were looking for a nice date? You want cheaper? Meet her at the grocery store, scope each other out, make sure you are comfortable and there is some chemistry.

Pick out some appetizer stuff and stuff for an inexpensive meal you know how to cook.

Cheap Bottle of wine or what have you.

Movie at prospective destination, have fun cooking.

The point is make the meal and prep an activity all its own and enjoy it.

Plus you'll get to see if she has any cooking skills

This is not realistic and most girls would find it weird. Going to a restaurant for drinks then end up ordering food is typical
