How is the ruble stronger than the dollar when it has now lost a quarter of its value against the dollar since the war began? Makes it hard to take this seriously.

Regarding the part about financial workarounds: those exist even without crypto. My friend bought a fake Gucci jacket that came from Russia. Paid for it by wiring money to Aruba, and the box came addressed from Mexico.

I've not followed his posts. IIRC, he's a doc. If so, he probably could afford it if he was interested.
OTOH, I've been flown 1st class for conferences, speaking engagements, new procedure teaching, etc. many many times.
WeeWee is younger, so that would be a little surprising. But perhaps he's similarly involved overseas where any US doc would be considered expert?
