Who here thinks that we should have no questions asked won the NC in 2005. That team was loaded with talent. Just think, that year we went to the Peach Bowl that year too. Man how different those two seasons are.

The only thing that prevented a BCS title shot was Katrina and Rita which forced LSU to play 9 or 10 consecutive games. Not many teams can run that gauntlet and be 12-0 or 11-1. Look at what he did to #9 Miami once the team was rested.

2005 was unfair for all of us. Not just the team.

2005 team was not mentally in it all year.
They played down to every team except Ole Miss, MSU, and North Texas. Senior leadership and a few clutch plays from Russell saved them in the close games. Ugly wins against UF, Auburn, Bama, and Arkansas could have easily been losses and the team could've tanked worse than this team did.

I think the 2006 team was better.
Also, in the Peach in 2005, we were a top 10 team. So was Miami. That's what made that bowl game so big. I think that was the only time that the CFA Peach featured two top-10 teams. Plus, we won the very first Peach against FSU, so we have some history with them.

In addition to the hurricanes, we got screwed out of the Cap One bowl when they chose Auburn. That rule has been changed to make sure it won't happen again.

Everyone was all over Auburn's nut when they closed the season hot and lost to us after missing 5 FGs, and we got shellacked in the SECCG by a team they beat. It was sickening. I was so glad to see them get stifled by Wisconsin.
LSU would have beaten any team in the post-season that year with how prepared we were.

Had we not been in the Cap One Bowl the year before, we would have went. I think Auburn was 9-2 so they would have still qualified this year (under the new rule) so same result.

Even playing in the title game would have been impossible. USC and Texas both went undefeated, and if I remember correctly, were both ranked ahead of us. Either team would have smoked us that year.
Now 2006 there was a shot. We played four top 10 teams on the road and still finished 11-2. UF and LSU were the two best teams that year. Who knows what would have happened had we met them in ATL.

We would've been Auburn 2004 that year if we went undefeated. Plain and simple. We started behind USC and UT, and there was no way we were going to jump them, so the best thing would've been an SEC championship and the Sugar Bowl in Atlanta.

Agree...we would've been 2004 Auburn...undefeated SEC Champs missing out on the BCS title game.

Disagree, we may have lost, but we wouldn't have been smoked after a month to get ready.

Wasn't it USC and Oklahomo? The big beef being how USC mauled OU?

no such thing as an ugly win against any of these teams.

Well, Bama was just a good and hard fought game. However, LSU did not play very well in those other wins. The accomplishment was not ugly in itself, however the process to getting there sure was.

2006 was the most talented LSU team ever.
Too bad they had a heinous schedule and Jimbo's shitty playcalling.

That was 2004. What happened to AU in 2004 is what would have happened to us in 2005 had we gone undefeated. USC and OU were 1/2 all year. USC and UT were 1/2 all year in 2005.
Texas would have beaten us by 17 or so in 2005 if you ask me. USC probably would have beaten us worse. I mean, UT won the game, but USC needed to kind of self destruct and have a shite defense for that to happen.
