This is not how economics works. The supply of maintenance shops at dealers decreases it creates opportunities for independent shops. The demand for service is unchanged so the supply will just shift in providers.

You guys are missing the point about the manufacturers having service centers in major cities.

Sure out of warranty work would still be done in a small local mechanic shop but warranty work will likely require you to drive to the next city over vs going down the road to the local dealership.
