What Garmin do you have? Mine was hooked to a 7612XSV, could select between low or high bands. If you have an XSV model it should be capable.
Non-XSV models will require a GSD “black box” to get 1kW output regardless.

1040XS. I was told I could do a 1kW but I honestly haven't 100% verified that in writing.
