Honestly can't wait for the 12 team playoff format

I like how it forces the season not to come down to one game (vs. Alabama). For the past 15 years or so, in order to make the Championship or CFP, you have to go through Atlanta. And to get to Atlanta, you pretty much HAVE to beat Alabama (yes I realize there are one-loss scenarios in which we could have made it, don't nit-pick), making a lot of other games almost feel secondary with the season sort of *climaxing* the first weekend of November.
Now, with a bit more room for error, we can make the playoffs without making the SEC championship (yes I realize this was technically the case before too but much less likely, again don't nit-pick).
Think this accomplishes a few things for LSU:
- Alabama game remains important, but not sufficatingly so. Our season isn't "over" per se if we were to lose to them. Maybe this takes the edge off a bit for everyone.
- Equalizes importance of other games we'll play (Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Florida, A&M, etc.). For example, this year the A&M game is essentially worthless outside of recruiting implications, defensive improvements, and rivalry/revenge. But in a future 12-team CFP world, winning these next three games could *maybe* put us back in the top 12 (obviously we may need other people to lose etc., but the point is that our season is still worth playing.) It's nice to have truly *meaningful* games in November despite losing to Alabama.
So now the future season results are:
- Best case: SEC championship and auto CFP bid
- Medium case: likely make the top 12 and look forward to some awesome December playoff college football
- Worst case: We miss out on everything, which is what we would face anyway with a 4 team format
In before, "bro if you want to have meaningful games in November/December don't lose to FSU and Ole Miss on National TV". Okay bro, if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle. Variance and chaos happen sometimes, it's still nice to have chances to play back into a playoff.
Also in before, "bro if you don't want this problem, then just beat Alabama". Thanks for missing the point of the post entirely

The 12 team format helps "fringe" teams like LSU. How many times has LSU finished the season since 2000 ranked like #6-#15 for example? Think about all those good teams we had that barely missed the CFP or championship game, because of some razor thin loss in September/October. Those teams (in the future) will get fair chances in a playoff format. Makes rest of season enjoyable

Except, of course, when Bama loses and can't make the SECCG. Then they get a mulligan no matter what. Nobody else in the SEC ever got that privilege.

No there wasn't.
BAMA could have made the playoffs without winning (or even making) the SEC championship
No other team is allowed to do that.
Bama is special and has special rules for them.

Lol they made it easier for the shitier teams to get in. You literally just made a post on “man we can’t beat these guys so I’m glad they made everything easier to get in the final playoff.”

I agree with that. I'm saying there was no chance for LSU to squeak in like Bama does in your scenario
And rest assured Bama will be in the playoffs every single year, by hook or by crook

That over simplifies it imo. There are a lot of good teams that miss the top 4 because, they happen to not win that "one" game against a conference rival that keeps them out of their conf. championship. It'd be a nice to be in the Pac12 and have your hardest game be Washington/Oregon, but it's not. For fringe teams like LSU, Michigan, Penn St., our hardest games are often LSU, Georgia and Ohio State (for Mich/Penn St.)

I look forward to the 12 team playoff as well but I think its going to have a different set of obstacles. The 12 best teams are not going to get in, it will be the 12 most deserving. So there is still going to be a need to win 10/11 games in the regular season if not going to make it to the SEC Championship game to get an at large bid.
