Other than aranda who would be the best? Chavis was great for awhile until it fell apart.

I liked Carl Reese a lot. Maybe Muschamp?

Great question

I think a ton of guys had great defensive seasons but not much longevity

Pelini has 3 great seasons. Muschamp had probably the best defensive season.

Aranda I would trust to be here for years

Who was here in the 80s I don’t know. I picked it up in mid 90s

I think Arnsparger was the best defensive coach we ever had but he was not the DC. IMO we never had a Buddy Ryan type DC. But we have had some great defensive players and plays I’ve seen over the last 60 plus years of following LSU football. In the sixties the thing was AM radio with J C Politz on the call. I rarely have missed a game.

as much as I despised Cholly Macs offense ineptitude, you may be on to something with the D by extension. We played good defense back in the 60's

Mac divised a defense to shut down Bear Bryant’s wishbone

But we couldn’t score either lol
(Les Miles teams)

The low scoring big games against Notre Dame and Nebraska are the big ones I remember
