Friend,

The mocking of Sbarro pizza is overdone and unfair. If you go to a good Sbarro and get a whole pie, it is a good NY style pizza. I have been to the original location down in Bensonhurst, which is now a sushi restaurant, and have talked to locals in the neighborhood including pizza men nearby, such as at J&V and DaVinci’s, and they will tell you the original Sbarro’s was one of the best pies in Brooklyn.

That the New Orleans Metro lacks a Sbarro’s is even more evidence to me that New Orleanians on the whole do not care about pizza. My favorite Sbarro was the one in Canal Place. I loved watching a movie there and getting two slices and a Coke. It was for a time a top five pizza in New Orleans, right up with Nino’s on S Carrollton, Dino’s on Vets, and Brooklyn’s on Vets. And guess what? All three of those are closed. Meanwhile Regenelli’s and Italian Pie live on. Like I said, New Orleanians do not respect good pizza.

Yours,

Regenelli’s

Was good pre Katrina.
The Italian Pie in Kenner is legit. The one in Baton Rouge is not good. Nor is the Jefferson HWY location.
