Ingevity Corp. said it will shut down its DeRidder specialty chemicals manufacturing plant in early 2024, a move that will affect about 180 local workers.

The South Carolina-based business said the move was done to focus Ingevity's growth on its most profitable performance chemicals.

The DeRidder plant manufactured components used in adhesives, rubbers, inks, emulsifiers and binders that are derived from wood pulp manufacturing.

Along with the plant workers being laid off, Ingevity said about 120 other business and support employees will lose jobs as a result of the shutdown. The company said the personnel moves will result in annual savings of $65 million to $75 million beginning in 2024.

I know a few people affected by this. Not sure what they will do. Not much going on in DeRidder outside of Ft Polk and the paper mill

Sounds like the paper mill depends on some of the product produced at this plant.

Honestly unless I-14 gets built very soon, there's not much other than forestry products or the military that would come knocking on the door.

I'd figure it was the opposite.
