I don't get it, but people love their celebrities.

When Elvis and Lennon died, you would have thought the world was ending. Just misplaced emotions.

who gets to decide if they're misplaced or not? Elvis and the beatles had a PROFOUND impact on millions of people's daily lives. No, most people didn't know john lennon personally or hang out with him. But countless people did associate beatles songs with memorable or important moments in their lives.

I was chilling on the beach with friends and family when the news of MJs death broke. I had been drinking and had a good buzz. Sitting in a chair under an umbrella with my wife and a couple other friends just watching our teen and younger kids doing beach stuff. When my buddy’s wife Julie said “oh my God! MJ died!” It took a few seconds to process before I flew into an emotional breakdown. I just went limp and tilted over out of my beach chair belly and face first into the sand. And sobbed uncontrollably for awhile. I couldn’t be consoled. I wanted to be alone. Once I was able to gather myself I got up and grabbed a boogie board and just floated out about a mile not caring where the current would take me or if I would be eaten by sharks. I was hauled back in an hour later against my will by a lifeguard on a jet ski.

Everything is a situation. Each person is different. The actor, the show, and your life are 3 different things. If a show meant something to you at a point in your life, the actor may have little to do with the tears.

Elvis and Lennon are different. They were icons. Matthew Perry was not. The show was.

I am like you. His death was a bummer. Kick in the gut. But I didn’t cry. I won’t cry. Same can be said for me of Chris Cornell. Bummer. Ruined week. Had it been Eddie Vedder that died. I might have cried.

Also mortality. He’s only 4 years older than me. He put a LOT more miles in those years than me. But it can point to a time in your life that was great (early 20’s) that’s over. So over that people
Involved are dead.
