Sorry to bump an old thread but it’s the newest one I could find. Did a quick 2 hour tour of the campus today and I was impressed. My older boy is figuring out where he wants to go. I hate to say it but I would rather him go to MSU (than LSU) at this point because of the surrounding city. The little bit of Starkville I was able to see looked fine. Laid back college town with not a ton of partying vibe. It’s about a 4.5 hour drive from my house.

As an added bonus I’ve heard they got some of the better public turkey hunting in the south near campus.

Mississippi State is a fine college for launching just about any career unless your son wants to be on the Supreme Court.

Noxubee wildlife refuge. One of my roommates in school used to get up and go over and hunt for a few hours before his morning forestry classes.

I have an elective recommendation for any student at MSU. 1114 Physical Geography w/Lab. It’s a freshman meteorology course that is not hard but very interesting. It’s a toe dip into the meteorology curriculum. One of the better uses of an elective, with material you will actually use and remember, on campus. Lab is ran by the GA’s.

Take any outsider’s opinion of Starkville and MSU and it’s always going to be a lot better after they visit. Message board idiocy and people trying to compensate for shortcomings is why people down MSU.
