But, but, but last I heard the GOP controlled the House. Since the GOP controls the House and the GOP is a mess, what does that say about those not in control?

Not any more than any other time. The problem is just that the majority is historically slim. This is when the fringe gets power. The slimmer the majority, the more power the more radical members have.
