I agree and it’s one of the things that makes South Park so iconic and have staying power. Just look through the comments to see how the message is often lost though because one or the other side latches on to one thing to support their narrative. The reality is SP made fun of both sides here as is typically their MO.

Pandering via gender and race swapping IS lazy. That doesn’t mean well written stories with fleshed out characters who are diverse can’t work well though.

Look at the success of the Spiderverse movies and fan opinions on Miles Morales. He’s not just Peter Parker but black, he’s his own thing with his own life and struggles as Spider-Man. And it works fantastically well.
