I like the Polish people but that is some of the most fricked land in the world.
They have been stomped back and forth for centuries due to so many powers rising up close to them and stomping them on the way to conquer other places.

That’s what fuels their (healthy and burgeoning) ethno nationalist culture today. Ditto for Hungary and Czech.

Actually, for many of those centuries and various parts thereof, the Poles have done some of the stomping.
