If you fly into Munich you’re only a couple hour drive from Salzburg. Austria has an amazing countryside.

he wife and I are starting to plan 2024 Oktoberfest in Munich with another couple. Going to fly United directly to Munich for 3-4 nights, then train to either Paris, Zurich, or Prague for a couple of nights before flying home. Booked a Courtyard in Munich next to the festivities. Has anyone been or have any tips/knowledge/advice?

When I went to Munich we left on train to Switzerland and spent a few days there. You can get a cheap flight from Zurich to Paris if you want to do both.

1. Don’t underestimate time and distances involved in getting from city to city.
2. If at all possible, add days to your trip and try a minimum of 3-4 nites per city.
3. Check out Italy.

Prague is an amazing city. Would always pick it over Paris for many reasons. But this Austria tour idea also sounds good. Salzburg and Graz are very charming and beautiful. I'm sure you'll have a great time no matter what you decide.

I strongly disagree. I wore normal clothes and felt really out of place. Locals kept asking why I didn't dress up.

What he meant was don't wear the fake lederhosen/ costume. What the germans wear isn't a costume its authentic attire, they would never call it a costume but I guess that's what us Americans view it as. Wear the real thing, which I agree with and I think you do also.

The best thing again is just to plan on if you are a male to buy a German plaid shirt and I'm not sure an inexpensive option for females honestly. Many of them wear a plaid blouse, but just get one as a souvenir from a legit store outside of the fair grounds (like downtown Munich not actually just outside the grounds) and you will fit it much better.
