I usually catch outlet sales or just watch on ebay/amazon for deals. be mindful of shipping costs if you go that route
ETA: I have the big saucepan, a large braiser with lid, 5.5qt dutch oven (this is a little small for me, but it was the Harry Potter one and my wife is obsessed), and 16qt stock pot.

I got my 7 1/4 qt Dutch oven at the La Creuset Outlet store in Hilton Head. That size usually retails for around $375. I bought one on sale, and was out the door for $202.
When necessary, I clean the bottom with a Mr Clean Eraser.
