I'm looking to buy a crossbow. I'm in the range of $300-$700. So far I'm looking at Wicked Ridge and Centerpoint.
I guess I'm asking for what NOT to look for, and advice on brands.
A secondary question is how far have you shot a deer with a crossbow? 40-50 yds? 60 yds?
I appreciate any responses and wish the best of luck for you hunter's out there.

I just bought a Barnett TS380 off Amazon for just under $500. Hopefully my son will shoot one this weekend. We’ve been playing with distance and I’d have no problem letting one sling at 50; I just haven’t tried 60 yet. No telling how far you can go with the high dollar bows.

You want natty only stats or does tweaked up count? Daylight or at night?

Got a Ravin 29 for my daughter, and it’s on another level. Price is the only problem, but highly recommend.

My daughter,, not taking a jab at you shot one at 50yd I watched the shot and saw the impact through binos. She was shooting a wicked ridge 360 with a rage . Deer was broadside quarter away and she hit right at diaphragm and lodged under skin on far shoulder after punching through the scapula. She was shooting beer can groups at 50 so I didn’t have an issue with the shot and she had shot several with a rifle already.
I think with the right scope it would be a 100yd Xbow but I wouldn’t shoot it past 50-60yd. Go look at some YouTube of the flight time and how much can happen between trigger pull and impact on 100yd Xbow shot for reference.

My buddy has a Centerpoint, legit one of the quietest cb's I've seen. Pretty fast, accurate to 50 yards. I think they copied the Raven tech with the helicoil cams for level string travel. I wouldn't hesitate to get one, that said I have a Raven R29 and it's pretty much the tits. I won't shoot same dot with 2 arrows at 100 yards, it really is that damn accurate.

Centerpoint bought Ravin. So same technology.

We're bow only on our property. My dad went out and dropped almost 2k on a tenpoint xbow, case, bolts etc about 5-6 years ago in the event a guest came over who did not bowhunt. It has been stored in the camp and never used. I'd sell it for 400.

Just got my daughter the wicked ridge rampage 360. Was around $600. It’s sighted in to 50 yards. She killed a doe Saturday at 33 yards. Certainly not the top of the line xbow but plenty fast and accurate enough for her shooting 40 yards in.

I shot a Wicked Ridge Invader for one season a few years back. It did fine out to 40 yards on targets didn't try further than that. The furthest I shot a deer with it was 35 yards. I wouldn't want to shoot any further than that because it's not significantly faster than a new compound bow but loud as all hell.

I shoot a matthews v3 72lbs. I don't think I would try to shoot a wiry doe over 35 yards. A relaxed buck 45-50 if wind is right. 46 is my furthest whitetail kill. Deer react quickly. I've had a doe broadside at 31 yards turn 90 degrees into the arrow and it enter in between her front legs in her heart.
Big game is a different story, 60 yards is reasonable shot in most cases.

Thank you all for your replies. The downvotes are hilarious though.

Also if it's just something you are using occasionally 500-$700 is the max you should ever have to spend. When i bought my daughter her wicked ridge 360 the guy in front of me was buying the 10 point nitro 505 with the garmin range scope on it. Thing shoots 505fps and was $4,200 before taxes. Thats just insane imo unless you just have money to burn.

The bow hunting purist with their 90% let off think you’re cheating.
